Job Summary
This position is charged with executing the day-to-day management and operation of the athletics compliance office for the nation’s largest Division I athletics program. The individual will monitor and enforce matters NCAA, Ivy League, and University rules and regulations, as well as educate and interpret the applicable rules for student-athletes, coaches, and staff on various matters.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
Compliance enforcement, monitoring, and education.
Direct and operate the day-to-day tasks of the athletics compliance office.
Establish, communicate, and implement educational programs for student-athletes, coaches, and administrators.
Interpret NCAA and Ivy League rules in order to provide coaches, administrators, student-athletes, alumni, and other campus constituents with guidance and advice.
Manage ARMS roster management system, which includes approximately 1200 student-athlete profiles, in addition to prospective student-athlete information.
Investigate, document, and submit NCAA and Ivy League violations, when necessary.
Research and write NCAA and/or Ivy League legislative relief waivers, when needed.
Collects, analyzes and submits data for various annual NCAA and Ivy League reports including, but not limited to, Academic Progress Rate, Graduations Success Rate, and Sport Sponsorship and Demographics.
Supervise additional compliance-specific personnel, including full-time staff, student workers, or full-time interns.
Monitor and enforce NCAA and Ivy League rules associated with off-campus recruiting and recruiting materials.
Track and communicate NCAA and Ivy League legislative proposals and changes.
Solicit coach and staff feedback on proposed legislation to present to the appropriate governing body during the yearly legislative cycle.
Eligibility of student-athletes
Manage the continuing eligibility certification process for approximately 900 varsity student-athletes by coordinating with the Registrar’s Office, Athletic Training Staff, and the NCAA and Ivy League Offices.
Manage the initial eligibility process for approximately 300 first-year varsity student-athletes through direct communication with the Admissions Office, Athletic Training Staff, and the NCAA and Ivy League Offices.
Research and write eligibility waivers to the NCAA and Ivy League.
Manages and verifies that every participating athlete is officially registered and enrolled full-time at the beginning of every semester.
Assesses the eligibility profile for potential recruited student-athletes.
Academic Integration & Other Administrative Functions
Manage the Faculty Fellows program, including establishing guidelines, sharing best practices, and integrating the program into department culture.
Develop and implement annual integration opportunities, which may include Back to School Week, collaborations with the Academic Resource Center, and workshops with Resident Deans.
In partnership with the Registrar’s Office, collect and manage day-to-day academic data pertaining to current student-athletes and distribute aggregated team academic data coaching staff.
Ensure that all student-athletes and staff members have completed the NCAA required sexual assault prevention training requirement, in coordination with the Assistant AD for DIB and Student Development and the University Title IX Office.
Manage and communicate varsity letterwinner process to coaching staff and work in conjunction with the Harvard Varsity Club to ensure accuracy of final varsity letterwinner reports for each team.
Financial aid oversight
Administer the Student-Athlete Assistance Fund program for eligible student-athletes.
Monitors team and individual financial aid limits.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum of 3 years working in an Athletics Compliance Office, Conference Officer or NCAA Compliance setting at the Division I level
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Master’s degree or J.D. preferred
Requires substantial knowledge of rules, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to student-athletes, coaches, alumni/donors, and other institutional constituents
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Outstanding oral and written communications, as well as attention to detail
Ability to work well with coaches, student-athletes, administrators, alumni, and other University constituencies
Exhibit solid negotiating and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, web-based applications
Experience with ARMS software preferred
