Hi all,
Hi all, please see the notes from the previous meeting attached!
Key Takeaways
*Ensure that when goals are made, they are tied to specific measurable, and specific timelines. This creates accountability from the various stakeholders involved.
Personal Goals:
Establish a concrete plan to work to develop programming and opportunities that are self-sustaining and identity-driven.
Make time for personal growth – reading, movies, conferences, etc.
Job/Title Goals:
Establish ongoing assessment tools to track hiring trends, programming participation, staff/coach/student-athlete demographics, etc.
Create platforms to promote social justice education opportunities that are mandatory through various avenues (student-athlete/staff/coach annual education, new staff onboarding, etc.)
Create and distribute a DEI Climate survey, or round table discussions to learn about challenges and areas of opportunity – with a focus on amplifying BIPOC voices to create sustainable change
Create opportunities for affinity spaces for different identities for both student-athletes and staff
There are challenges with goal setting when the job description is not connected to DEI. Strategies that were discussed to alleviate these included:
Molding your current job description to match your aspirations, with support from your supervisor.
Utilizing other job descriptions with DEI to influence your role and responsibilities
Tying DEI into your job description outright. For example, if your job description has the following responsibility-Represents the interests of the identified student population to internal and external consistencies; participates in task forces, special committees and interdepartmental committees, participating on DEI committees can be tied to this responsibility.
College/Department Goals:
Establish a DEI strategic plan that pulls from the larger campus diversity strategic plan
Create effective, measurable strategies on how to recruit, increase and retain the diversity of staffing in departments.
Ensure goals are aligned with campus, specifically with education coming from outside sources (such as professors, local organizations, campus centers, etc.) to ensure consistency and accountability.
